Hello and Welcome!

Dr. Courtney L. McCluney (she/her) is a Lady of Leisure recovering from cycles of burnout and overwork. She is currently seeking rest and pleasure as she reimagines our relationship with working.

Dr. Courtney is a brilliant PhD, first generation college graduate from High Point, North Carolina who descended from enslaved Black people and dispossessed indigenous tribes. She is a reader of historical fiction and wellness-centered books, writer, student of meditation and yoga, and believer in a liberated Black woman-centric theology.

Sustaining herself hinges on Dr. Courtney’s capacity to resist overwork and breathe. She is a student of somatic healing and mindfulness and designs her life to cultivate ease. This includes napping, shortening the work week, taking monthly sabbaticals throughout the year, and living in rhythm with her menstrual cycle and the seasons.

Dr. Courtney completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Darden School of Business and the Center for Interprofessional Education at the University of Virginia, a PhD in Psychology (Personality and Social Contexts) at the University of Michigan in 2017 and a BA in Psychology and Interpersonal/Organizational Communications at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Ronald E. McNair Scholar
